As described in the letter sent home last week, this event is a worldwide celebration of reading. Taken from the Global Read Aloud website:
Why the Global Read Aloud?
Global collaboration is necessary to show students that they are part of something bigger than them. That the world needs to be protected and that we need to care for all people. You can show them pictures of kids in other countries but why not have them speak to each other? Then the caring can begin.
We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
Our first connection was with a 1st grade class in Plaistow, New Hampshire. We used Skype to see them, talk to them, and share our work. They had researched facts about caterpillars and other bugs - which they shared with us. Thank you, Mrs. Collins and 1st graders for sharing your learning with us!

* UPDATE: I previously posted the incorrect time for our field trip departure. Haglin's and Tongen's classes will begin walking to the Fire Station at 1:00 on Wednesday. (Not 1:15 as previously posted - I have also gone back and edited that post so it now has the correct time.)
