* Tuesday - Wear Irish Pride T-shirts! Students will get to meet with their Irish Connections Mentor on this day.
* Wednesday is our field trip to the Fire Station. We walk there, rain or shine - so send your student prepared for the weather. Right now Weather.com is predicting partly cloudy, 73 degrees, and almost no chance of rain. Yippee! Haglin's and Tongen's classes will be leaving the school building at 1:00 to begin walking. (School still begins at our usual time.)
* If you have signed up to chaperone the field trip, be sure you have taken Volunteer Training. If you have not, contact me so we can set this up for you prior to 1:00 on Wednesday.
*Wear orange for Bullying Prevention on Wednesday.
We continue to build our stamina for Read to Self. This week we hit an all-time high of 10 minutes!
This meant we got to introduce a new part of Daily 5 - Work on Writing. During Work on Writing, students practice writing letters or words, and may add pictures to go with them. We reached 2 minutes of stamina for Work on Writing.
We will continue practicing both literacy skills every day and building our stamina.
As we read, we have been practicing the skill of visualizing what we read. Even a child who is reading just the pictures can visualize! Look at the picture and think about what might have just happened, how the characters feel, and what might happen next.
We continue to focus on letters of the alphabet and have made it from A to H. It is important for students to recognize letters, write them, and know the corresponding letter sound.
Listen to our class singing to practice the letter sounds - and use this song at home to practice as well!

In math, we created Counting Books. Students practiced several skills - reading numbers, coloring that number of objects, and drawing that number of objects.
We also made counting book pages related to The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
Can you believe he ate through five oranges on Friday??
